Dear Junior Elk Hunter:

Congratulations on drawing an Elk tag in Unit 6A North & South!  The Phoenix Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in cooperation with the Arizona Game & Fish Department will conduct a Unit Watch during your hunt. This program is designed to assist you in making your hunt enjoyable, safe and violation free.  We will be there to assist you should you need medical assistance, searching for lost party members, retrieving wounded or downed elk, skinning and unit information.

The Unit Watch Camp will be located adjacent to the Rodeo grounds at Mormon Lake Lodge.  We will be there Thursday thru Sunday, October 13th, 14th, 15th and till noon on the 16th.  Please feel free to stop by the camp for a cup of coffee or cocoa or just to chat. Coffee, cocoa and donuts will be available most mornings. You may see Officers from Arizona Game and Fish at camp and we ask that you report any violations to them or to any R.M.E.F. Committee Member.

We will conduct a short seminar and spaghetti dinner during the evening of Thursday 13 October. Spaghetti will be served at 4:30pm with the seminar at 6pm. The seminar will consist of speakers from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the Arizona Game and Fish Department.

We will raffle a Ruger M-77 Compact in 7mm-08. Tickets are FREE to every Junior hunter who presents his/her signed hunting license and elk tag during the Unit Watch weekend. The rifle will be drawn at noon on Sunday 16, October, 2005. You need not be present to win.

Mike Miller, from Miller’s Southwestern Processing, will have a refrigerated trailer at camp. He will provide free skinning and transport of your Elk. At your request, he can process your Elk for pick up at one of his 3 locations in Phoenix, Tucson, or Queen Creek. (480-987-8700)

Your elk could weigh over 500 pounds, so bring a friend, rope, sharp knives, freighter pack, map, compass and a flashlight. Remember to skin your elk A.S.A.P. so it will cool.  MOST IMPORTANT remember RESPONSIBLE HUNTING ETHICS.  Just to remind you of a few: Respect the environment and wildlife---respect property and landowners---show consideration to non-hunters---no shooting across or from a road---no buddy hunting---no violation is worth losing your hunting privileges for 5 years.  THE RESPONSIBILITY TO HUNT ETHICALLY IS YOURS.  THE FUTURE OF HUNTING DEPENDS ON YOU!!!

We are looking forward to meeting you and wish you a safe and successful hunt.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Phoenix Chapter Coordinators:

Dave Renn (623) 907-4638 or Jim Goodall (480) 491-0235
