Off Road Preparation

There are many things you should do before you venture off road. One of the most important and obvious things is to make sure your vehicle is ready. If your vehicle is newer you will have less to worry about but you should still check it over starting with the tires. Is the tread good? You should have no slices or cracks, and proper air pressure. Don’t forget the spare! Do you have a lug wrench and jack and know how to use it?

Next pop the hood and check all fluids. Full and clean is what we want here. Check fan belts. No fraying or cracking, and your radiator hoses should not be leaking or collapsed.

Now look at the underside undercarriage of the vehicle for anything leaking or broken. Also make sure your fuel tank is full.

The next thing is your vehicle survival kit. You should make sure it is in and secure. Any heavy and potentially dangerous items during a rollover, if not strapped down, will be flying all over the place and can cause serious injuries if it were to hit someone.

If all this sounds basic and obvious, good. It was meant to be because not everyone knows this stuff. If by pointing this out and it helps but one person go out and get back home safe, I will be a happy fellow.
