Practice with Your Clothes On Yep
that's what I said, brings up all kinds of images, doesn't it.
Actually I'm talking about your camo's.
Most of us Arizona stick slingers begin practicing when the
weather is still warm. Even
during the August deer season the weather can easily reach triple digits
during the daytime especially at the lower elevations.
I have hunted all over the country and I've never been anywhere
quite like Arizona. When
winter comes its like somebody decided to turn down the thermostat and
all of a sudden its wintertime. Cold
weather is a good thing for me because it means its getting closer to my
favorite time of year. December
and January, you see I love to hunt the Muley rut. Well
now you’re ready to go. Your bow is tuned up as well as your
broadheads and the cold weather has finally arrived.
You've been practicing all year just waiting for the season to
open. You have scouted your
area thoroughly and located that once in a life time buck. All precautions have been taken. You've used scentless laundry detergent, and washed in
scentless soap. Opening
morning finds you in the right spot at the right time.
A front has come through and it below freezing.
Perfect! You’re
nice and toasty in your new hunting coat.
And then the buck walks into the open.
You can see those horns hanging on the wall, nothing could go
wrong. You have the
distance ranged and he is standing at exactly 30 yards, broadside.
You draw, aim, release and miss. What happened? Your clothing
caught the string sending the arrow into the brush. Now if you are like most of us you got a bunch of camo clothes. Some for warm weather hunting, some for moderate weather and some for cold weather hunting. Oh yes, of course, several different brands and patterns as well. That can get you into trouble. They all are cut a little different so each one causes you to shoots differently. One set draws up the sleeves when you draw and your pants fall down when wearing the other. Coats will restrict your draw and fowl on the string during the release. The most frustrating thing about this problem is that you just can't tell where the problem is until you shoot with the stuff on. Moral of the story! Practice with your clothes on. Hat, shirt, hunting pants, coat, facemask, everything. It will make you a better archer when it counts most. Team AZOD Archery
