Product Review: T.R.U. Ball Sweet Spot Release If you are interested in improving your shooting form and want to incorporate back tension into your release, T.R.U. Ball has created a back tension release that works great. I have been using the SWEET SPOT release as a training aid since January of 2002 and have experienced outstanding results. SAFETY: The main reason I wanted to try the SWEET SPOT was because it is one of the few back tension releases that is equipped with a safety button. The release attaches to the bowstring very easily with the safety button engaged and provides a solid anchor to the string while drawing the bow. Unlike most back tension releases, you can’t “punch” your mouth or nose while drawing the bow because the release slips off of the string. When you come to full draw and are ready to begin the release sequence, you simply press the safety button and the SWEET SPOT now can be activated with back tension. COMFORT: As with any new release, it takes a while to become comfortable. I used the release for about 50 shots the first evening before I was truly comfortable with it. Now, it only takes a shot or two to ”get the hang” of the release. T.R.U. Ball does include a reversible thumb bar to accommodate both right and left-handed shooters and this thumb bar helps place the hand correctly on the release.
REASON FOR USE: Many archers experience “Target Panic” or “Punching” their release. This causes archers to be inconsistent and causes poor form. Most archery coaches encourage the use of back tension to release the arrow. In fact, many believe the archer should be surprised when the bow fires. Using the SWEET SPOT will train the archer to use back tension while shooting and will actually cause the bow arm to “stay out of the shot” due to the fact that the shooter will be surprised when the bow fires. This is where the safety button is crucial: the only time the arrow will fire is when the archer has released the safety.
BONUS REPORT: I recorded my first “Robbin Hood” on the second night I used the release. It really works.
