When is Good
"Good Enough"? Last week I had decided to try a new product and in order to do this I needed to retune my rest. While in the archery shop working on it the Shop owner (Curtis) approached me to see what I was doing. The conversation started, When are you going to stop messing with your bow? You are shooting good, when are you going to leave well enough alone? Your bow is fine just the way it is. This started me thinking that maybe he is right. Even though I am still trying out the product I do at times make unnecessary changes and try the latest Gizmo just to see if it will do as the companies claim it will do. So the question is when is enough, enough? It always seems to be, no matter how good we are shooting we feel there is an easy way to raise our score ten or even twenty points. Sometimes this is true but most times it takes more concentration, commitment and practice. Most of all it takes consistency. I decided about a year ago that I needed to choose one person to do the work to my bow because at that time I had three or four people I was using to have my bow worked on. I go into all of the shops that I pass as I travel around town or even around the state, I will even buy things from different shops depending on what they have and what I need. But when it comes to someone tearing down my bow, adjusting it or tuning it up I decided it would be more productive to me to have one Mechanic even though all shops have great things to offer and very dedicated people working in them. I felt it was counterproductive to continue this practice. Even though I am capable of working on my own bow I feel it was best left to a professional equipped with the tools and the training. When I chose the one to work on my bow I took into account what was important to me, Customer service before and after the sale was highest on my list followed by the atmosphere in the shop. Were people friendly, helpful and willing to talk or just listen when the situation called for it? This decision was going to be a hard one because all of the shops I frequent fit those criteria. I chose ZW Archery, my decision came down to those qualities plus location and familiarity with the brand of bow I shoot, Matthews. Whether or not ZW Archery is the best shop is not the question, it is the best shop for me. Arizona's Archery shops are some of the best in the country and if you have not been in them all you are missing out on some great people, great conversation and an endless resource of archery products and knowledge. I hear people say they found great deals at the Super Store, from the Catalog or online, the price you are paying is the lack personal service. What do you do when it is two days before you leave for the hunt that you have planned for all year and you need a string, a cam, a rest or a set of arrows. Support the people you depend on and when it comes to bow repairs find the person that best fits your needs, listen to them and give them the time to show you what they can do for you. Team AZOD
