Gold and a Rainbow

Have you ever wondered what it was like in the early days of the gold rush, when miners and prospectors would spend countless hours in a creek bed trying to find enough gold to make a living? Well if you have or if you would like to try and see what they had to go thru then head up to Prescott and the Lynx Creek gold panning area.

All you need is a gold pan, shovel, small bucket and a little luck. You can pick UP a little panning info at the Lynx Lake Store, or if your drive takes you thru Wickenburg stop by D.J. Maps they can set you

Up with a map of the gold panning area at no charge, and the folks a D.J.’s have gold pans shoves and a whole passel of gold panning stuff.

Once you get to Prescott take SR 57 to Lynx Lake. The area is well marked so you want have any problems finding it.

Now that your there I would suggest you start looking under rocks in the stream bed (gold will settle under rocks and in bends as it is washed down Stream) In its hay day Lynx Creek produced over 200,000 ounces of gold and they say that the old timers never even scratched the surface.

Oh make sure to take some fishing poles (and a License!) cause if you don’t find the gold at the end of the rainbow you can go the lake and maybe catch a few rainbows.

What ever you do, have fun and remember if you pack it in - pack it out
