Trail Food Tips

If  case you haven’t noticed, my husband, Louie Urquides (AZOD Hunting Section), spends a lot of time in the field. Scouting, filming, testing products and hunting. If he doesn’t have a tag, rest assured he knows many people who do. This means that he needs nutritious lightweight snacks. Most people buy lots of granola and cereal bars and that could get quite expensive. Try using that dehydrator that you ordered  to make game jerky  and dry some fruits and vegetables. These snacks will not have any preservatives, be nutritious and inexpensive. Also the amount of space needed for packing and the weight of dehydrated foods cannot be beat. Most of the dehydrators come with recipe books that include all you need to know; i.e...ingredients, times, etc... for that specific model.

If you like trail mix it is cheaper to make your own than buy it at the store. Another benefit, you have in it only those ingredients that you like. Buy these items in bulk, mix them together and bag them in the quantity you desire. Suggested items: cereal, nuts, dried fruit, m&m’s, sunflower seeds, raisins, candy. Tip; if you use chocolate make sure it has a candy coating or something that isn’t going to easily melt, otherwise it could be messy.
