Bozeman and Shintani fished crawdad crankbaits along creek channels in the Goose Flats area of the Tonto Creek arm and 6-inch Texas-rigged custom oxblood worms off ledges around Windy Hill. Second place went to Scott Guetti of Scottsdale and John Courtemanche of Glendale for a limit weighing 13.55 pounds. They received checks totaling $1,800. The team fished rattling lipless crankbaits on points in the Salt River arm. Third place went to Raymond Earven and Shawn Barrowdale, both of Claypool, for a limit weighing 13.44 pounds. They received checks totaling $2,050. The pair fished crankbaits off rocky shores and point near the entrance to Salome Cove. The team is sponsored by Action Automotive & Towing; Earven is also sponsored by Guayo's on the Trail; Barrowdale is also sponsored by Tri-City Sanitation. Fourth place went to Jeff Eagar of Glendale and David Schultz of Chandler for a limit weighing 11.82 pounds. They received checks totaling $950. The partners fished crankbaits and Carolina rigs around Windy Hill. Fifth place went to Dan Parris and Fred Peters, both of Phoenix, for a limit weighing 10.53 pounds. They received a total of $875. They fished jigs and crankbaits around Windy Hill and Rabbit Island. Rounding out the top ten were (6) Troy Bell, Mesa, and Scott Hall, Cave Creek, with 10.48 pounds worth $525; (7) Rick and Steve Grier, both of Peoria, 10.40, $1,675; (8) Keven Finley, Surprise, and Gary Senft, Phoenix, 10.34, $1,400; (9) Gary Chitwood and Brian Marshall, both of Payson, 10.17; and (10) Steve Czerniski, Mesa, and Alex Dombrowski, Tucson, 10.06, $1,575. The Big Fish award of $1,000 went to Phillip DiJulio and Pat McCarville, both of Phoenix, for a 4.80-pound largemouth. Thirty-six teams received cash and merchandise prizes. The huge field of 250 contestants faced bright pre-frontal conditions during the day. Remnants of a tropical storm from Baja moved across the lake shortly after weigh-in bringing gallons of rain, wind and dangerous lightning. Fortunately, everyone got off the lake without incident.
