BAROMETRIC PRESSURE AND BASS Bass fishermen are always looking for anything to give them an advantage over the rest of the field. Whether it’s electronics, quality gear, faster boats, or a good barometer. Well I know what you are thinking, a barometer isn’t tops on my list either. But truth is, barometric pressure plays a significant role on the movement of shallow water bass. As barometric pressure rises bass will move deeper, and as it falls they will move to shallower water. Fish that are below the 15’ level are usually not affected by the changing pressures. These fish are more likely to be in the same areas, day to day, regardless of pressure changes. When buying a barometer, you will want one with a marker hand. This will allow you to mark the pressure before you start fishing and adjust your depth as pressures change. At the end of the day you should reset the marker to the current pressure so you will have an idea of where to begin the next morning. Good Fishin’, KIP POLLAY (AZOD) |
