Campfires or Habitat? At a recent B.A.S.S. club meeting in my hometown, we were discussing a variety of topics with an Arizona G&F representative when one of our members brought up a problem he had noticed at our local lakes. It has to do with campfires. With many Arizona lakes continually fluctuating in water level, the campers move in and out with the levels to get a lakeside spot. Whether levels are up or down, a camper will tend to build his fire out of the closest resource. The problem is that when levels are low, campers are basically burning down fish habitat. So when the levels rise, you have a barren cove that once held an abundance of fish. This may seem to be minor to some, but most fishermen agree this is a problem. The majority of B.A.S.S. members believe in saving our resources and the practice of catch and release, lets go one step further and save our fish habitat. Bringing in your own firewood is an easy alternative. Good Fishin’, KIP POLLAY (AZOD)
