Geno Catches A Fish Geno had the good fortune to marry into an outdoor family. For him, fishing was a trip to the super market. He gamely tags along. What he lacks in finesse he makes up in enthusiasm. It is FUN to go fishing with Geno. Witness the following true account: Once upon a Labor Day, Dad, Linda and Geno were bass fishing at Roosevelt Lake near the blue bridge. Geno announced that he was snagged. Having heard him say this at least one hundred times on this particular day the statement was way beyond rhetorical. No one cared. With much disgust, he yanked to get free from the snag and it moved! Then Geno started yelling. "It’s a fish! It’s a Fish!" Dad and Linda were a little more interested but they had heard this false alarm before. It wasn’t long before there was no doubt that he did have a nice fish on. The fish was hugging bottom and it was one o’clock in the afternoon so it was assumed that Geno was wrestling with a carp or a buffalo. He reeled and reeled and as fast as he reeled the fish stripped the line the other way. Geno insisted that something was wrong with the reel but upon investigation it was determined that the rod and reel were functioning properly. He had just never caught a fish this size before. Linda warned Geno not to "horse" him too much because she wanted to see what kind of fish that it was. Dad, in between fits of tear streaming laughter, tried to explain that this was the fun part of fishing. Geno replied, " Bull**** I want his big ass in this boat." To which Linda, who was standing by with the net almost lost it, (the net). Then the fish surfaced and all were surprised to see the ugly mug of a flathead catfish. The stunned anglers watched as the flathead made one quick dash for the bottom while Geno, reeling furiously, cussed it out. The next time it came up the fish was netted without incident and brought into the boat. He weighed in at a respectable twelve pounds. There were enough catfish nuggets for everyone. That is not too bad for a rookie. Wanna have some fun? Take a beginner fishing. Linda Dightmon, Team AZOD
