4,331 Javelina Permits Remain

 

The spring hunt draw for javelina, turkey, bear and buffalo has been completed and there are 4,331 leftover permits that will be available on a first-come, first-served basis by mail only starting Nov. 26.  To find out if they have been drawn, the 42,000 spring hunt applicants can call the main Game and Fish telephone number at (602) 942-3000 and follow the prompts, access the Game and Fish Internet Home Page at www.azgfd.com <http://www.azgfd.com>, or wait for their notification in the mail Those accessing the information via Internet or telephonically should be prepared to provide their department identification number (for most people, it is their Social Security Number) and the month and day of their birth.  Drawing Supervisor Marvel Meadows said there were 42,684 applicants for the spring hunt, which is down slightly from a record 45,000-plus applicants that was set last year. “With the economic downturn and the events of Sept. 11, we actually expected a larger reduction in applications than we experienced,” Meadows said.  There are also 4,331 leftover permits, which will become available on a first-come, first-served basis by MAIL-ONLY starting Nov. 26. There are 1,565 permits remaining for the Handgun, Archery and Muzzleloader Javelina Season, 1,033 Archery-Only Javelina permits, and 1,707 General Season Javelina permits remaining. There is also one Juniors-Only Javelina permit remaining.
