During and After the Dove Hunt
By Team AZOD
Field Care
It’s eight o’clock in the morning and three more
birds are needed to limit out. The dove hunter is still comfortable but
those birds are already cooking in the plastic liner of that Wal-Mart
hunting vest. At eleven Mr. Dove Hunter proudly walks into his suburbia
home only to show off a limit of nasty.
If you want to be able
to eat what you shoot then field care is imperative. There is already an
ice chest. Use it. Use those plastic bags from the grocery store so that
there won’t be feathers on the Gatorade. Put the birds on ice as soon
as they are harvested. Another tip is to take that empty Gatorade
bottle, freeze some water in it and put it in the pouch of your Wal-Mart
hunting vest. Walla, you now have a portable mini ice chest.
Recipes
The secret to delicious dove dinners is to keep the
breasts moist. Here are a few ideas:
·
Cut the dove meat into slices, ¼ of an inch thick. Brown
them in a frying pan and then add your favorite stroganoff sauce and cook.
Serve over cooked egg noodles.
·
Put a can of mushroom soup into a casserole dish. Fill empty
soup can with instant rice, pour into dish. Fill the can again about ¾
full with water and pour into dish. Mix together, add browned dove breasts
and mushrooms. Put casserole into a 400 degrees oven and bake for approx.
30 minutes. Check occasionally and stir if needed making sure the rice
does not stick on the sides or get too dry on top.
·
Wrap the dove breasts in bacon and throw them on the grill.
You can marinate it over night or just add barbecue sauce.
