Tough Year for Archery Elk

The Elk aren’t in the rut yet and that’s making it a tough hunt for those lucky individuals holding Arizona Archery Elk tags.  AZOD Hunting Section Leader Louis Urquides reports that the elk are just starting to bugle.  This puts the rut behind about two weeks.  Louie reports little success bugling and suggests using a hyper cow call, if you have a bull close.   Still-hunting is a good bet and if you are lucky enough to locate a bedding area, put up a stand.  Recent rains have also made working waterholes a low percentage tactic, but with a couple more days of windy dry weather setting a tank could pay off.  The good news is that the rifle hunters should do very well this year.
