Here is a picture of my wife Sarah Maier and her bull that was killed in
unit ten 2003. As luck would have it her first time putting in for elk she
gets drawn. It scored 330 but is really unique because of the almost flat
whale tails. Like they were chopped of running through trees. A hunting
story you wont believe.

Well for the first three days of the hunt we hiked our butts off and saw
very little action,a couple small bulls and very little oppertunity to get
them.
The weather was really rainy and miserable,so we decided after the morning
hunt on the third afternoon to go into town and get some coffe and something
to eat. My wifed asked " should we bring the gun" I told her well ok you
never know. On our way to town my dad who was with us saw a yellow patch on
the side of a mountain and said that looks like an elk. So we glassed it up
and said wow lets go. As the elk is watching us we hightail up to about 350
yards away. It doesnt spook and keeps on eating so
she nervously puts her bi-pod down and in a hurry fires of a round but
missed i said fire again but a little higher so she shoots again, but
nothing. The elk is still standing there wondering whats going on and
continues eating so we creep up a little closer to about 250 yards now h'es
looking right at us. I said ok calm down and take your time
she fires again but to no prevail. By this time she's crying and the whole
nine yards. So we reload her gun and fire 3 more shots but nothing, now i'm
mad and thinking what is going on here but he elk is still there and just
eating. Well we go to load the gun again and find out we have no more
bullets with us , yeah exactly what i said. The truck is about 600 yards
away with about three trucks watching the whole thing. So i said i'll try
and go get more bullets, my wife is a wreck and shakin so i run as fast as i
can and get the last of our bullets and head back up the hill but amazingly
the elk trots off about thirty yards and goes back to eating now i cant
believe whats happening. So now my wife is a little calmed down by this
point and i'm trying to talk to her real quiet and guide her through the
shot when she screams " shut up" at me and fires a round and drops the elk
where it stands. An unbelievable hunt and trophy elk to my wife and i.
Needless to say she harvested this unique elk and we will remember this
hunting experiance forever. Sarah thanks for the nerve racking experiance.
