Elk With Locked Antlers

On March 26, 2002 we got a call about two bull elk with locked antlers. The bulls were on a military base north of Medicine Hat, Alberta. By the time we got there, one elk was dead. We guess they had been locked for at least 24 hours. They were caught solid, and obviously there was little chance of the remaining elk freeing himself. After careful consideration, I was able to sneak in and cut an antler off the dead elk with a horn saw.
This freed the bigger bull, and he considerately went backwards and ran off across the prairie instead of over top of me, for which I was thankful. This was pretty exiting and made for some neat pictures.
