While fishing one of the pristine creeks on the Mogollon Rim Penny Davis caught this 7 pounds native Brown Trout, guided by her husband Ryan Dyer. The trout, which was named “Wilburn”, was caught at approximately 2pm on Saturday May 27, 2006. Ryan will be checking the record books to see how this beautiful specimen will rank. It might be a new record for stream bred brown trout in Arizona. Ryan and Penny had hiked about 4 miles down the creek in a small canyon to a new spot never reached by any person, that they know of. Penny first cast produced a nice native 12 inch rainbow and then Wilburn was caught on the second cast on an ultra-light with 3lb. test line and a z-ray. After graciously posing for a few pictures for evidence and remembrance, Wilburn was released back to his "secret spot" in the pristine creek.
