Shotgun Shooting Tips

Here are a few tips that may help you become even a
better shotgunner than you are now.
1. Buy or take some
kids helium balloon, tie about 40 yards of string to it.
Tie the loose end around your finger, now let go of the balloon.
See how high up it looks? Well
that is in the effective range of your shotgun.
All of those dove that are flying over your head are not out of range.
Think that’s weird, read the next tip.
2. Find your particular
‘spot’ you plan on shooting from. Now
whip out your trusty laser range finder and start checking distances.
No I am not crazy! Just see how far that mesquite tree is over there on your
left and that cactus is on your right. Set
up, in your mind, some yardage markers that you are comfortable shooting within,
then stick to it. Do not let anyone
else see you do this and they will think you are a good shot.
3. Sneak out to a
shotgun range and shoot a round of skeet or sporting clays right before you go
dove hunting. Clay targets average
60 mph, dove average about 45 mph. You
will look like the shotgun master we all claim to be.
4. Be AZOD’s Shooting
Editor and you will just naturally be good.
Well that’s what they told me when I took this job.
