A Cowboy Shooters Dream the new Ruger Vaquero 32 magnum

The new Ruger Vaquero in 32 H&R magnum is a special little gun. It is fun to shoot and easy to handle for either a cowboy or a cowgirl. I have two stainless Bird Heads and both of them shot point of aim right out of the box. Not bad for a new model.

The recoil is light and if you load your own as I do it is very light. I shoot the 80-grain molly coated bullet from Bear Creek. Being a man of some years I enjoy carrying a lighter gun and the 32 is considerably lighter than the 45-long colt Ruger Vaquero’s that I have been shooting for several years.

So far I have heard of several different loads that are being worked on. The two most popular powers seem to be Tight Group and Clays. I still have not seen much data on the best load for recoil and accuracy. The two most popular weight bullets are the 95 and the 80-grain. Personally I like the 80-grain bullet it shoots like a 22, no recoil.

I am starting to see more and more of these little guns at our local matches. Everyone seems to like them as much as I do. If you shoot Duelist then you should take a long look at the 32. I favor the bird head, it is easy to handle even if you have small hands. The ladies that I have talked with seem to really like the weight and feel of the gun. A number of these ladies are shooting Duelist and they are very quick with these guns.

The only shortcoming I have found with the gun is the size of the loading gate it is a bit small, making it slow to load and unload. That can be fixed with a free spin paw. This is one gun that can make good use of the modification. When I installed the free spin paws in my guns it was a little more difficult that I was expecting. The first gun must have been at one end of the tolerance range and the paw was at the other end, because I had to do a lot of filing and polishing to make it fit. The second gun I just put the paw in and put the gun back together and it worked just fine.

This is a gun that will be developing a lot of interest in the coming months. So try it, you will like it.

Until next time be safe and shoot straight.
