Tree Stand And Ground Blind Etiquette

By, C.L. Zwar, Team AZOD Archery Editor

A short story for you all,

I know a hunter that went out last year and built a blind on a water hole to hunt from. Now many of us have done the same thing in the past. Well this hunter (lets call him Bob) woke up early opening day, grabbed his gear, got on his quad and headed out. He had a 30-minute quad ride to get to the spot where he would park his quad and hike in. So Bob, after thinking how great this opening day would be arrived at the spot where he parked his quad and started hiking. He still had about 300 yards to hike before getting to the locating where he had built the blind. So as Bob is hiking into the blind he is checking to make sure not to leave any scent. He checks the wind and once everything is good his approaches the blind. To his surprise there is already a hunter in the blind. Now lets stop for a second and take a look at Bob’s choices.

#1 Bob can turn around and find another place to hunt

#2 Bob can talk to the other hunter and explain to him how he built the blind and maybe the hunter will leave

#3 Bob can make a scene with the other hunter and ruin the spot for sure

Well, Bob decided to do something that I have never seen before in my life. Bob climbed into the blind and sat down right next to the other hunter. That’s right, no hi, no how are you doing, just sat down next to him and started glassing like the other hunter wasn’t even there. Well, this other hunter tried for 10 minutes to make conversation with Bob but Bob just continued to glass. I think right about now all of you know what you would have done to Bob but the other hunter just got up and walked away. Now to give the other hunter credit, he checked the wind and made for sure he didn’t interfere with Bob’s hunt. Bob went on to arrow a cow elk about 30 minutes after the hunter left. Once Bob told me this story I told him how lucky he was that this was archery season and not rifle season. I think this story shows how rude Bob was to the other hunter. I think if we all read the Game and Fish recommendations of tree stand and ground blind etiquette we will all be better off. Like the recommendations say, First come, First serve.
