Arizona Senior Olympics

On March 1, 2003, 33 people ages 50 and up braved the threat of the upcoming thunderstorms to attend the Arizona Senior Olympics.  The event was held at the FITA range at the Ben Avery Shooting Facilities.  With the temperatures of a cool winters day, these young at heart men and women dressed in jackets, some with coffee cups in hand, to enjoy a day of shooting and visiting with fellow friends and archers.  Even though the tension was felt on the shooting line to skillfully place an arrow in the much wanted x ring, there was laughter and chit chats during scoring and between rounds.  Everyone seemed to enjoy a day of shooting and competing.  Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were handed out to the winners in each category and the smiles on the winners faces were priceless.

We all need to remember that even though age can not allude us, we can still enjoy a sport that we all love for many years to come.  Just ask the shooters in the 80-84 year young bracket.  Also, thank you to the volunteers that worked the event and to the City of Phoenix for hosting a much needed event for all senior archers.  Keep you eyes open for next years event and come out and enjoy the day.
