AZOD Recommended Guide- Fishing With Kit and Friends I come from a small town and wouldn’t have it any other way. Nothing against the city folks, but the people in a small town, in general, just seem to be more friendly. I recently got a chance to go fishing with a guy, though he resides in Scottsdale, reminds me of the folks back home. Kit Lutz, the head guide at the private trophy fishery they call Oasis, is truly a gentleman that makes you feel at home. I had often heard of Oasis, but left it at that until Kit gave me a call last September. I quickly accepted his invitation and couldn’t wait to get there. Oasis is a secluded treasure nestled within the Phoenix City Limits. I had often been in the area, never knowing what was near. In fact, once I was there, the only sign of being in the city was the back of one industrial building and the airplanes flying overhead as they take-off and land at the airport nearby. This fishery is widely talked about for its trophy sized Florida strained largemouth bass, not to mention bluegill in the three-pound plus range, and big cats to boot. I was accompanied on our outing by my two oldest sons David and Kyle, my good friend Don McDowell of Shake, Rattle, and Troll, AZOD fly-fishing expert Terry Chia, and his daughter Chelsey. We met Kit bright and early one Saturday morning, and were quickly backing down the launchramp. We were going to have Terry give it a whirl with a fly rod while the rest of us were armed with everything from light gear for bluegill to the heavy arsenaI for the lunker bass. Kit and I fished together, while Kit had a fellow guide accompany Terry and Chelsey Don brought his boat and escorted my two sons around the lake. We weren’t in the water five minutes and the fish were biting. Kit has fished this lake for years and seemed to know where every bass in the lake would be hiding. I felt like a kid in a candy store as I reeled in one after another. The bite would occasionally slow down, but soon exploded once again. By the end of the day, we had accumulated well over 110 bluegill, and 100 bass. In case you were wondering, Terry caught fish all day as well, on the fly rod. The fishing was awesome, but so was the company. I immensely enjoyed fishing with Kit, but the conversation was just as enjoyable. His mild and relaxed manner makes the day on the water memorable. Terry and Chelsey were equally pleased with their guide. Every time I looked to their boat, smiles were abundant I would highly recommend you give Kit and Friends a call and spend some time on this remarkable fishery, in the company of some first class guides. Oasis is a perfect place to bring a kid, send a loved one on a special occasion, or just catch a lot of fish. It is also a very short drive for Phoenicians. One thing for sure, I’ll be
back. For more information call Kit at 623-556-2986
