Pro-Files: Charlie Goslin

I have met a lot of interesting people in my first two years as a member of the Arizona B.A.S.S. Federation.  Whether I am on the water or at a fishing function of some sorts, I can bet that I will run into a familiar face.  One of those faces I am usually sure to see, is that of Charles Goslin.  Charles is very involved in the sport of fishing, both on and off of the water.  His list of accomplishments, as a tournament angler, are quite impressive, but his dedication to the B.A.S.S. Federation, and all its special functions, are remarkable, just the same.  This Pro-File takes a closer look at the life of Charles Goslin.

Ever since his emergence on the tournament scene, in 1981, Charles has been actively working on bettering his abilities, yet eager to lend a hand to someone in need.  He has helped organize, or participated, in several Casting Kids Competitions, along with donating his time and his boat to every Valley Big Brother / Big Sister Fisheree since 1988.  The Fisherees place a child, along with their Big Brother or Big Sister, in the boat of an experienced angler for a day on the water.  Most of these kids would have never experienced the joy of fishing if not for this event, and all of them leave with a smile.  Charles also was with the Scottsdale Foundation from 1992-1995.

As a member of the Arizona B.A.S.S. Federation, Charles has qualified and fished in the Western Divisional Tournaments in  ’88,’89,’90,’93,’95,and ’96, and in 1989, he was awarded the Federations “Angler of the Year”.  He also spent two years as the Federations Tournament Director.

When he is not at a Federation tournament, Charles can be found at a number of  the popular circuits, or “opens” including the ABA Teams, Allstar Couples, and the Annual Chapman Dodge Tournament.  Some of his notable finishes in these events include: qualifying for the Allstar Bass Draw Championship in 1994, Qualifying for the ABA Superteams Championship in 2001, a second-place finish at the Chapman Tournament in 1999, and a first-place finish in the 2001 Chapman event.

Charles currently resides in Phoenix where he works as a quality control person with Layke Manufacturing, Inc.  Layke is in the aerospace industry, in which Charles has worked for twenty years.  He is presently a member of the Arizona Outlaws, of the Az. B.A.S.S. Federation, and on the Pro-Staff for Southwest Ranger Boats and Warrior Rods.               Kip Pollay (AZOD)
