A Little Help Please!!!

The Mule Deer Foundation (MDF), a TRCA Trustee has scheduled a Mule

Deer Habitat Work Day on the world famous Kaibab National Forest.  MDF,

In cooperation with the US Forest Service, Arizona Game & Fish department, and other conservation groups encourage volunteers to come out to the Kaibab National Forest on August 26th, 2001 and help repair fences around 2 important wildlife water sources on the Kaibab. This is a great opportunity to help the world's most famous mule deer herd.

The North Kaibab Ranger District will be repairing two important wildlife water sources in the cool forests of the Kaibab Plateau. Ranks Lake and Crane Lake fences are in need of repair to keep cattle out of the riparian vegetation while continuing to allow access to water for mule deer and other wildlife species.  We will be repairing both aspen rail and barbed wire fencing around these lakes.

Tools/Equipment to bring:

Pickup trucks and trailers to haul aspen rails; chain saws to cut aspen rails; fence pliers; fence stretchers; gloves and other personal safety equipment.  Fencing materials to be provided by the District.  Personal items to bring along: Sun block, water, a good hat etc.

Where to Meet:

Jacob Lake Work Center on August 26, 2001 at 8am to head out to the work sites.  Questions?  Contact Melissa Siders, Wildlife Biologist at 520-643-8128 or msiders@fs.fed.us There will be a short briefing on the morning of the Aug 26th August 25th before the work begins.  Best Afield
