No -- the Big Game Drawing Hasn’t Been Completed

A telephone recording at the Arizona Game and Fish Department about got misconstrued by people – the switchboards people were calling thinking the drawing was complete.

“It’s one of those things where what was said on the phone system recording was correct, but it could be interpreted a number of ways,” said Information Branch Chief Joe Janisch.

Bottom line, he said, is that no, the drawing has not occurred yet, nor will it until sometime in mid or late July. “We have to have the drawing completed by July 27 in time to meet the deadline for notifying people, but we typically beat that deadline by a week or so,” Janisch explained.

Game and Fish officials have been trying to remind all applicants that this year, there will be no pink cards sent out notifying people of the drawing results, but that they can find out via the Internet, via the department’s call in phone system at (602) 942-3000, or by calling a commercial number at 1-866-220-4868 (there is a $5 fee) once the drawing is complete.

“The post cards notifying people have become superfluous – and costly. Most people get the information well in advance of receiving the postcards, and the postcards would barely beat either the tags or the refunds through the mail. But be patient, we are still weeks away from that point,” Janisch said.
