It’s Almost That Time Again It’s late February and we just had one of those winter wet spells. Three days of really nice rain fall. Know what that means? It means that it’s almost time for the Desert to be alive with flowers. In a few weeks we should start to see the first desert flowers begin to appear. In another week or so, there should be flowers everywhere. The beauty of nature will be all around us. I don’t know about you, but I look forward to this time of year. I love to go to the desert when it’s in bloom. There is nothing more magnificent than stands of desert flowers as far as the eye can see. It’s the time of year when the desert regenerates itself. New life is coming forth, right before our eyes and it’s doing so in a kaleidoscope of colors. Blues, Purples, Yellows, Reds and Oranges. A rainbow of colors to push aside our every day worries and petty annoyances. It’s truly the best time of the year. It never fails, when I’m driving down a desert road, or a Jeep trail, and there are flowers about, there is a calming that comes over me. I’m no longer in a hurry to get wherever it was what I was going. To hell with schedules! Who cares if you get there on time? Mother Nature has provided a show that lifts my heart and dazzles my eyes. Fortunately, the show is not for me alone. It’s for everyone who is willing to slow the pace and venture beyond the asphalt of the city. This show comes but once a year….some years, not at all….so, plan ahead. It’s coming and you don’t want to miss it. Be there when the show opens….and bring the kids. They’ll love it too. Tom Kampert AZOD
