Soar with the condors on the Arizona Wildlife Views TV series
PHOENIX — Come, soar through the Arizona skies with the largest flying
land bird in North America, the endangered California condor.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department will take you along as the huge condors, with wingspans reaching upwards of 9.5 feet, make their comeback in Arizona. Then scurry along with endangered black-footed ferrets as they burrow their way back from near extinction in their native Arizona habitat. These are just a few of the stories Arizona Wildlife Views, a local Game and Fish Department television production, is featuring this season. Arizona Wildlife Views makes its season debut on local PBS station KAET-TV channel 8 in the Phoenix television market starting Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 7:30 p.m. In Tucson, the show makes its season debut Sunday, Sept. 5, at 5 p.m. on PBS station KUAT-TV channel 6. For a line-up of upcoming shows and additional information, visit azgfd.com/tv. “We’ve really gone the extra mile this season to make the show unforgettable. Arizonans rarely, if ever, get the opportunity to see wildlife up close and personal the way this program features it,” says program host Chuck Emmert. Arizona Wildlife Views was nominated this year for three Rocky Mountain Emmy awards. In past competitions, the show has won several awards for photography, editing, script writing and best program. “Many of the show’s segments take years to produce because our photographers follow the animals in search of the best footage,” says Emmert. “This year our biologists went into the Silverbell Mountains near Tucson to save a population of desert bighorn sheep that had developed a lethal eye disease. It’s outstanding, never before seen footage.” The department began producing the show 30 years ago. Since then it’s developed into a must-see for wildlife watchers, bird and animal lovers, and those in search of family-friendly educational television programming about outdoor recreation. The Arizona Game and Fish Department’s award-winning photographers and television producers take you to the most remote parts of the state, where you will see awe-inspiring wildlife and experience their survival and often times their comeback in the Arizona outdoors. |
