The AZOD Archery Challenge 3D Shoot
I will expand a little bit on the shoot so more people can be informed of what
happened. AZOD received numerous comments that the shoot was fabulous and put
together very well, great shoot was the buzz word on the hill not to mention the
great scenery of shooting next to Lake Pleasant.
All who attended were happy about the course and were awaiting the award
ceremony and door prizes. AZOD started off with a little introduction and thanks
to all the staff and promoters that made this shoot possible. After the
introduction one of the promoters, Rich Schulz, asked that two
archers come up on stage for him to ask a few questions of. One male and one
female came up on stage to answer the simple questions about the shoot but the
last question was do you plan to come back and shoot our next shoot and brining
a few friends, both said they defiantly planned on coming back, with that said
the money man handed each one of them a 100 dollar bill and thanked them just
for coming and participating.
Then the fabulous door prize list started being handed out, backpacks, arrows,
radar detectors, guided hunts, archery accessories, truck accessories, a bow and
much much more. Then once again here came the money man to spike up the
excitement, he started adding money to each door prize that was awarded, 100's,
50's, 20's in cash were going out to the door prize winners. Overall money man
handed out an additional $1250 in cash, wow can anyone tell me if that has ever
happened at ANY archery shoot.
Time for the awards, AZOD ended up handing out $3100 in prize money with 1st
place money in the classes that had 6 or more shooters at over $450 dollars, 2nd
over $350, 3rd over $250, 4th over $150 and 5th a little over $100 dollars. One
1st place class that had 3 shooters ended up getting $200 dollars.

After the awards were handed out the money man appeared again, this guy didn’t
quit, AZOD had received word that they were expecting some shooters to come from
New Mexico to participate in the tournament so he asked if they were present and
to come up to the stage, he had money in his hands and was ready to had it out
but apparently they decided not to come, maybe next time guys.
The shoot was a great success but the lack of participating archers was
puzzling. AZOD thought they put together a fabulous opportunity for the archery
community but for some reason the shooter turnout was low. It is important to
note that AZOD is not trying to take anything away from the local clubs that put
on weekly tournaments for the AZ. Archers. AZOD staff participates in
practically every shoot these local clubs put on just to promote them and enjoy
the sport of archery, without these local clubs the AZ archer would have no
tournaments to participate in week after week. Everyone archer wins with these
clubs in action and AZOD is attempting to add another opportunity for the AZ
archer to participate locally. I cannot say there are not going to be conflicts
with other clubs because there are but every club whomever they are gives 100%
to the sport of archery and needs as much participation as they can get. If we
do not support all the clubs and our archery shops they will fade away and we
will not be able to enjoy the 3D tournaments that we love to shoot.
AZOD has been given the ok to do one more shoot and try and gain the respect and
participation of the archery community. I know everyone in attendance was happy
with the tournament and said they would return but again AZOD like all the other
clubs need the support of many more archers or the AZOD tournaments will fade
away also. For the shooters that were in attendance tell your friends and please
offer your feedback so that we can make a fun and exciting tournament for
everyone to enjoy in the future.
Many, Many thanks to Frank Ortiz and the AZOD staff, Full Draw Bowhunters (a
local club) and all the great sponsors that made this shoot great. To all that
participated, thank you and look forward to seeing you again.
